Why Include a Recreational Room in Barndominium House Plans?
Adding a recreational room to your barndominium provides a unique opportunity to design a space that reflects your lifestyle, hobbies, and entertainment preferences. Here are the top reasons why a barndominium house plan with recreational room is worth considering:
1. Multifunctional Entertainment Space
A recreational room offers endless possibilities. Whether you want a game room, home theater, fitness area, or crafting zone, this room can adapt to various activities. It provides a designated area where family members and guests can enjoy themselves without interfering with the other parts of the house.
2. Increase Home Value
Barndominiums are highly customizable, and features like a recreational room make your property stand out in the real estate market. Potential buyers often seek homes with extra spaces designed for fun and relaxation. Barndominium house plans featuring game room or recreational areas not only boost functionality but also add substantial resale value.
3. Create a Family-Friendly Environment
For families with children or teenagers, a recreational room can become a hub for fun and bonding. From board games to video games and movie marathons, a recreational space encourages family time and helps keep the main living area clutter-free. Having a designated space for activities can also be a great way to separate work and play within the home.
4. Dedicated Space for Hobbies
Whether you’re passionate about fitness, crafting, gaming, or other hobbies, a recreational room gives you the flexibility to personalize the space according to your interests. Barndominiums offer the perfect floor plan for customization, and incorporating a recreational room can cater to your needs for creativity and relaxation.

Design Ideas for Barndominium Plans With Recreational Room
Designing your barndominium plans with recreational room gives you endless creative freedom. The key is to ensure that the space meets your needs while blending seamlessly with the overall style of your home. Below are some of the best design ideas to help you plan the perfect recreational room.
1. Game Room for Endless Fun
One of the most popular options for a recreational room is a game room. A barndominium house plan featuring game room can be designed with your favorite games and activities in mind. From pool tables and foosball to arcade machines and video gaming setups, this space can become the ultimate fun zone for your family and friends.
- Gaming Stations: Create multiple gaming stations with cozy chairs and large monitors or TVs for video gaming enthusiasts.
- Classic Table Games: Incorporate a pool table, ping-pong table, or air hockey for a timeless game room setup.
- Board Game Center: Add a large table with plenty of seating for board games and card games. Shelves for storage will keep everything organized and accessible.
2. Home Theater for Movie Nights
A home theater is another fantastic option for your barndominium designs with entertainment space. Equipped with comfortable seating, surround sound, and a large screen, this space can be transformed into a luxurious home theater for movie nights and sporting events.
- Soundproofing: Consider soundproofing the walls to keep the theater experience immersive without disturbing other parts of the house.
- Seating: Invest in reclining chairs or theater-style seating for ultimate comfort.
- Lighting: Install dimmable lighting to set the perfect ambiance for watching movies. LED strip lights along the baseboards or ceiling can add a modern touch.
3. Fitness and Wellness Area
For fitness enthusiasts, a barndominium floor plan with activity room dedicated to exercise is an excellent option. Whether it’s a fully equipped home gym or a peaceful yoga and meditation space, you can design your recreational room to meet your health and wellness goals.
- Home Gym Setup: Add weight racks, cardio machines, resistance bands, and mats for a comprehensive workout area.
- Yoga and Meditation: Create a calming environment with soft lighting, plants, and mirrors. Incorporate space for yoga mats, meditation cushions, and soothing music.
4. Crafting or Art Studio
If you enjoy DIY projects, crafting, or painting, why not dedicate your recreational room to your creative pursuits? A barndominium house plan with bonus recreational room allows you to customize a space for your art supplies, sewing machines, and other crafting tools.
- Workstations: Set up individual workstations with plenty of storage for supplies, such as paints, fabrics, and tools.
- Natural Lighting: Make sure the room has ample natural light or adjustable lighting to ensure a comfortable workspace for detailed projects.

Layout Options for Barndominium House Plans Featuring Recreational Room
The versatility of barndominiums allows for numerous layout options, particularly when it comes to including a recreational room. Here are several layout ideas to consider when planning your barndominium house plans with bonus recreational room:
1. Recreational Room in a Two-Story Barndominium
For those designing a two-story barndominium, placing the recreational room on the second floor offers privacy and separation from the main living areas. This configuration can create a designated “entertainment zone” where noise won’t interfere with day-to-day life on the first floor.
- Loft Area: A loft space overlooking the main living area can serve as a cozy and open recreational room. This setup works well for gaming or watching TV while maintaining a connection with the rest of the house.
- Private Second Floor: Alternatively, a fully enclosed second-floor recreational room can provide privacy for more immersive activities, such as a home theater or fitness area.
2. Ground-Level Recreational Room for Easy Access
For families with younger children or those who prefer all their living spaces on one level, placing the recreational room on the ground floor can be the ideal choice. This layout allows for easy access from the kitchen and living room, ensuring the recreational area becomes an integral part of family life.
- Open-Concept Floor Plan: An open-concept floor plan can integrate the recreational room into the flow of the home, making it a social and inclusive space for gatherings.
- Enclosed Room: For more privacy or separation from noise, you can opt for an enclosed room adjacent to the main living areas.
3. Garage Conversion
If you want to maximize space and utility, converting a detached or attached garage into a recreational room is an excellent option. This approach allows you to maintain the original floor plan of your barndominium while adding extra square footage dedicated solely to entertainment or hobbies.
- Separate Entry: A garage conversion can be designed with its own entrance, making it easy for guests to come and go without entering the main home.
- Versatile Design: Depending on the size of the garage, you can create multiple zones within the recreational room, such as a game area, fitness corner, and media space.

What Our Etsy Customers Say
Very quick and very reasonably priced
Sanverma Designs was extremely helpful while helping us to customize our house plans. I wanted an almost complete change in our garage area and he completed it with no problems. He gave us exactly what we wanted. He was very responsive and completed the project in less time then what he originally told us. I would highly recommend working with Sanverma on your next set of plans!
Had a minor hiccup with my order. Seller was super quick to get it resolved. Prints are top notch. Gave them to my builder and he approved of them also! 10/10
Great attention to detail in the plans. He customized our plans for a very reasonable price and was very responsive each step of the way!
Great service, quick perfect download. Already replied to my possible minor changes.
Very fast delivery on our 2100 square foot custom house plans. We found a stock blueprint from them on Etsy and wanted to use that base plan and do a custom plan from it. The cost was 40-50% less than a local architect/drafter but still not cheap. Communication was great and the designer made all changes I requested in a timely manner. It’s legit, I was skeptical at first also! I did feel a little rushed towards the end bc even though I’m not a builder, I like to know how things are designed so I can make sure it’s built right and builders don’t try to cut corners. I was asking a lot of questions and I understand time is money, so it still gets 5 stars from me. No builders have seen the plans yet. I will update this review if I have issues with builders understanding the blue prints.
